About Us

With over 35 years of plumbing experience to his name, Brian is our Master Plumber who possesses a sound problem solving ability and who takes challenges in his stride.  He loves to share his vast plumbing knowledge with his developing team of expert plumbers and thrives on reaching quality solutions in a cost-efficient way for the customer.

He is a proud father of two daughters, Laura and Katie, and is happily married to his wife of over 20 years, Janet.  Together they make a dynamic duo who are extremely proud of their family run business, growing plumbing team and loyal customer base.   As a boss Brian is not afraid to get his hands dirty, if need be.  When demonstrating a strong work ethic to his plumbers, he certainly leads the way!

Before starting their family business, Janet had a successful career in nursing for nearly 20 years.  She attributes her great communication skills to her nursing experience and knowing how to ask questions. 

Janet has no doubt her nursing and motherhood years also lead to her having fantastic organisational skills.  Brian will confirm that it didn’t matter how awesome a plumber he was, to be successful in business, we needed clear communication and organisational skills.   Janet’s attention to detail, customer focus and determination has this family business in a prime position to continue growing under Brian’s plumbing brilliance.

Originally from New Zealand, James is the newest member to join the DPS team.  His mature age, calm and inquisitive nature make him a great blend within our team.  Plumber James brings a pleasant and positive attitude, is a dedicated and hard worker showing a great willingness to support the team. 

Favourite: TV show/movie/food?

Filipino food my partner cooks, barbecue meat, fresh fish and seafood.

I enjoy Korean tv shows at present, but enjoy anything with lots of action and fight scenes. 

My partner will tell you I cry during sad movies but don’t believe her. She lies.

Favourite Sport?

Bodyboarding – think horizontal surfing. Also known as boogie boarding, sponging, (esky) lidding and the more fun version of surfing. 

Fav thing about plumbing?

I enjoy solving problems and helping people. Plumbing is very diverse which keeps it interesting. It’s also an integral role in society which helps keep people happy and healthy!

What do you like most about working at dps?

The team at DPS is a very supportive one. We all work together to get the job done and leave our clients happy.

If we come across challenges on the job, help is always available to overcome them in an efficient and constructive way.

Funniest experience on a plumbing job?

Modifying a client’s sewer drain and getting an unpleasant surprise. Seems someone forget to inform them not to flush the toilet while work was undertaken. 

Best hairstyle at dps?

Brian’s shock of white hair. Leave the electrical work to the sparkies’, boss. Angus the apprentice is a very close second.

Best sense of humor?

Tim always brings the banter while being approachable and offering sound advice.

Most difficult job while working at dps?

Digging a deep hole by hand in muddy wet ground to cap off a sewer point. 

Ground water kept entering the hole,

and we couldn’t bail the water out fast enough to find the connection.

 I got covered in mud head to toe.

 Needless to say we got there in the end with perseverance and a few choice words. All in a day’s work at DPS where we get the job done!

Pet hates?

I love pets 😉 I have a dog and a cat.

Best plumbing advice received from Brian?

Identify the problem. Access the area. Assess the situation. Find a solution. 

 We want to leave happy clients with long lasting solutions to their plumbing needs.

One thing about me outside of plumbing?

I enjoy the outdoors and being away from civilisation.  It helps press reset on the daily demands of life.

Hobbies?

I’m an avid fisherman. I love hiking and taking the path less travelled.

If not a plumber what?

Either a Neurosurgeon or the person who cleans the neurosurgeons toilet.

I’m not fussy. If I’m working I’m happy.

Perfect holiday destination?

Anywhere with clear water and mountain streams to explore.

Wherever the fish are biting and the beers are cold.

Often the first person our customers speak with is James who manages our busy DPS schedule, emails and phone calls.  It is a task he takes seriously and always strives to do well.  Clear communication skills are vital and James is dedicated to ensuring our business administration is both productive and smooth.  On hectic days when plumbing jobs become more complicated than anticipated, James has a calm nature and we can always depend on him to steady the ship.

Probably an actor or a sports commentator, given I do impersonations and enjoy sport as well.

Hawaii – went there for my honeymoon and have wanted to return there ever since. Amazing place with amazing beaches.

George is our Master Plumber apprentice who is an enthusiastic learner and demonstrates a willingness to work hard and help the team.  He is pleasant and responsive to customers needs and we look forward to him becoming a fully fledged DPS plumber soon.

Angus has commenced his plumbing apprenticeship with Doherty Plumbing Solutions and is showing a mature focus to his learning and great commitment to doing the best he can. He loves working with the senior plumbers and we look forward to developing Angus into the best plumber he can be.

Our niece, Jess came aboard to assist us with polishing our administrative data entry and also launched our social media campaigns.  We have loved working with Jess who is a wonderful human and her skills include having a great attention to detail and an enthusiastic attitude.  Jess is an attentive listener and is always fully engaged to the task at hand.
