Every home and office should have a gas safety check performed routinely to ensure the safety of the occupants and surrounding area. Below are some example call-outs Doherty Plumbing Solutions has attended.
Gas plumbing in Endeavour Hills
Brian and George from the Doherty Plumbing Solutions team were on-site to assist a customer in Endeavour Hills with gas safety checks.
The customer had requested the installation of a new kitchen range hood and subsequent gas safety test of existing appliances at their rental property.
Our crew removed an old exhaust unit in the kitchen and installed the new range hood unit between overhead cabinets, as requested. All power supply was connected via the junction box and tested. The appliances’ gas supply was then tested for Carbon Monoxide spillage.
The customer was provided with a Gas Safety Report afterwards, which is a very important component of the service.
Gas plumbing in Hawthorn
After a customer from Hawthorn reached out to our office reporting a gas smell in their kitchen cabinets, the Doherty Plumbing Solutions’ gas plumbing team was dispatched to assist them.
The smell in the kitchen area was prominent under the cooktop at this rental property. An investigation of the existing gas supply network revealed a leaking pipeline. The faulty gas pipe joint was repaired and retested for gas leaks – all were found back to normal.
Our licensed gas plumbers then carried out testing of all appliances for Carbon Monoxide spillage. A Gas Safety Report was supplied to the customer, once everything was found in working order.
Why do you require Carbon Monoxide Testing?
Be it a residential or a commercial property, regular Carbon Monoxide spillage tests and gas safety inspections are very essential. As a colourless and odourless gas, it is hard to detect the presence of Carbon Monoxide, which could be fatal in high concentrations indoors.
Since 29 March 2021, new Victorian rental laws within the Residential Tenancy Regulations 2021 stipulate that all gas installations and fittings must undergo safety checks every two years by a registered gas fitter, who is licensed to service Type A gas appliances.
So, if you are installing a new gas appliance, or want to gauge the efficiency and safety of your existing connections, a gas safety check is vital.
